Follow Up Items:

A. Enough is Enough: Sheryl gave a brief history overview of Enough is Enough. There are schools across the states who are partaking in this organization. During the week of April 5 – 9, 2010 EIE is having an event at NIU. They have received a great response from within the community for this event. They will have student groups such as, RAD and Cease Fire from Chicago, and have activities such as teaching self defense. She mentioned the local schools will paint umbrellas for “Umbrellas for Peace”. They will also have a walk as part of this event. The walk will start in the Central Park area by Residents Hall and end at the Field House. If weather is bad it will take place within the Field House. The painted umbrellas will be displayed at the Field House. Once the event schedule is finalized, Sheryl will forward the information onto us. This is the pilot year for this event and will continue each year. Sheryl along with the Trio Sponsors Group will host a panel session on April 7, 2010 at 7:00pm in the Holmes Student Center. They are inviting professionals to come and speak to students answering questions such as ideas dealing with parenting, violence prevention, if we were in charged of the world how would we solve violence, and so on.

Group shared ideas on how to get information into the local schools grades K-12 for such events. Kathy liked the idea of “These Hands Don’t Hurt Campaign” from the EIE packet. Kids and adults sign a pledge not to do harm onto others and put their name on a hand cut out. Through discussion, it was decided that DCP/SAFE, through their Social Norm Program, will do lunchroom intercepts in the local middle and high schools for “These Hands Don’t Hurt Campaign”. The kids will sign the pledge, write their name on the hand and it will then be display at the Field House for the EIE event in April. This can also be incorporated into the Blue Kids event on the Court House lawn.

B. CAC Fundraiser – Monique: The Child Abuse Prevention Event will be a walk on May 15, 2010. There is a 5 mile and 1 mile walk through the Park District Shelter House. Registration starts at 9:00 am with an introduction period at 9:30, and the walk will begin at 9:45. Kris Povlson will be the speaker. The goal is to bring hope into the community and bring awareness of abuse. To become a walker or to sponsor a walker, go online to cacionline.org. The profit of the walk for CAC is 85% of amount raised. The registration fee is $15. Lunch will be provided to the participants. The hospital will donate water, a first aid station, and they have also sponsored a team of their own.

C. BBBS Bowl for Kids Sakes: This is an annual event and will kick off on Feb 11 with an interview on WLDK. The Mardi Gras date is set for March 5, 6, and 7; NIU in on Feb. 22 & 23; and Sandwich in on Feb 28.
