Project Success Meeting Minutes
February 16th, 2010
Those present: Shirley DeCorte, Amy Heiman, Marsha Sommers, Shawn Maxwell, Shannan Harley, Jason Nicol, and Jennene Anthony.
Introductions made.
Library: Valerie La Berge was not in attendance due to traveling to the schools to talk about the Monarch Books. Marsha commented that attendance at the preschool story time has seen an increase in the number of children participating.
Literacy Project: Michelle sent the posters and postcards with Jason for distribution throughout the community. Jennene brought Dummer’s portion back with her. Marsha took the portions for both Haskin and Prairie View to deliver to the schools. Shirley took Woodbury’s portion to distribute.
YMCA: No representative in attendance.
KEYS Report:
Hispanic Coalition: Shirley announced that the Hispanic coalition is working to organize a field trip to the Shedd Aquarium on a Saturday in the future. She also shared their concern about funding cuts to the organization. Shirley also commented on the Cinco de Mayo celebration that will take place in May is being planned and organized.
Centennial Counseling: Amy Heiman gave the group an update on the condition of Angela who is still very pregnant and has gall stones. She also commented on the growth that is taking place in both the Sandwich and Yorkville offices and they are looking to hire new therapists. They also have a psychiatrist from Linden Oaks, Dr. Michael Martin, who serves patients one day a week. Amy discussed that all of the therapists as well as the interns have small groups on different topics that meet in the schools.
YSB Report: Jason reported that the LAN monies have been received total $7,700. These funds, already allocated, are for students at-risk of school failure through the WRAP plans. They are awaiting additional funds that should bring the total to about $32,000. Jason mentioned that the Active Parenting of Teens group is up and running again after state cuts.
Parent Education: Marsha discussed the next family fun night that will be taking place on Thursday, February 25th at Woodbury School. The theme is love and the parents and children will be working together to create crafts, personal educational games, and dancing to music together.
4-C: No one present to report.
Ben Gordon Center: Michelle sent postcards (via Jason) that have the address of the new DCP/SAFE website to share with the group. The web address is www.dcpsafe.org

Girl Scouts: Shannan Harley represents the entire Northern Illinois region as a membership and community development specialist. She talked about the recent merges in October between the Elgin, Sugar Grove, and Rockford offices.
DeKalb County Community Foundation: Shawn Maxwell discussed the spring grant deadline is March 1st. Questions about the grant can be answered by visiting their website at www.dekalbccf.org, or by contacting Deanna Cada at 815-748-5383. The deadline for the youth grant is February 22nd at 5:00 p.m. The grant will include youth in the development and implementation of the program, and it should be tied to the 40 developmental assets.
